Woah

So I just checked the baby blog thinking that it's been a long time and the last post was in December...and the post was about Halloween?! So ashamed.

We're not total slackers though. We spent the holidays with Ben's parents and also looked for a new place to live. After looking at 10+ houses we finally found one we could call home! So we packed up all of our stuff (and there was a lot) and moved. So now we live in Campbell, CA - about 45 minutes south of San Francisco. I was sad to leave San Francisco at first but I have to say that life in suburbia is pretty nice. We have plenty of room to spread our wings and a yard for Emmett to play in. Not bad at all. Now if only the rain would go away so we could play outside.

Emmett has reached quite a few milestones the past couple of months. He's increased his vocabulary from hi to bye, meow (when he sees a cat), woof (when he sees a dog) and rawr (when he sees a lion).

He's also starting to feed himself - he makes a mess of it but he's also quite proud when he manages to get the spoon in his mouth. Grandpa Burling was able to snap a couple of shots for us.

I'll try and get some more pictures of him up - he' starting to look more like a toddler than a baby now! No more chubby cheeks!

First Word, First Crush, First Pot

Emmett now has words. Well, one word to be exact. He can wave and say, "Hi." He's been doing this for a week now. We weren't sure if it was a fluke or if he was talking but he's been doing this pretty consistently. His timeliness on this is still a little sketchy...he'll be playing and then bust out with the waving and "hi" out of no where but he also does it when he sees me or Ben walk into the room. So he gets points for practicing.

Emmett also has a new girlfriend. It's a girl in a book. She's waving hi. He will find this book and hand it to me or Ben and wants us to read it to him. When we turn to this page he starts waving hi to her and then kisses the page. Should I tell him that he doesn't stand a chance with her? No need to burst his bubble yet, I guess. For now, I will encourage this love affair since it encourages him to read (or look at books).

We also extended his play area. This area now includes the kitchen and all of the toys that come with it. He likes to play with pots, pans, colanders and strainers. He was quite proud to discover he could sit in the frying pan the other day.

Emmett Birthday

I had to work on Emmett's real birthday - bad mommy. But Emmett had a great day with Grandma and Grandpa! Grandpa (Ben's Dad) did a great job of putting a blog post together. I'm reposting it for you all to enjoy.

Today, was my Birthday!

This is the table and chairs that my grandpa just finished.
My dad and uncle played with them when they were kids.

Grandma & Grandpa took me to the library...

...and I got to check out some really neat books.

Then, we went over to the pre-school playground at church...

...and got our picture taken!

After my nap, they sang "Happy Birthday" to me and I got a cake!

I really like chocolate cake!

12 Months!

So many parents have told me that it goes by fast - and it's true. I can't believe that Emmett is now 1 year old. They change so fast in the first year and learn so many new things - its amazing. Their neurons and synapses must just go crazy and no wonder they sleep 13-14 hours a day. I'm proud (and a little sad **tear) to say that Emmett is no longer a baby. He's getting close to be a toddler. He's not walking quite yet but he's an expert cruiser (walks along furniture) and I'm pretty sure he will start walking in the next 3-4 months - if not sooner (yikes).

So let's look how Mr. Emmett has changed this year...

Just a few minutes old....

5 Days old - after his first bath. Aunt Sherry brushed his hair.

1 month old - November 2008

2 months old - December 2008
This is when he got his "chubby chops" as grandma would like to say.

3 months Old - January 2009

4 months old - February
5 months old - March
He thinned out a bit cause he was starting to be more mobile.

6 months old - April

7 months old - May

8 months - June

9 months - July

10 months - August

11 months - September

12 months - October 2009

Happy birthday Emmett!!

Crawling+Mischief = Emmett

Emmett is really enjoying his mobility. He's quite the expert crawler now which means I have to keep an eye on him all the time. Cause if I don't - this is what happens....

He climbs on to things.

And doesn't know how to get down.

He plays with the soot from the fireplace - and it's fake fireplace. So I really have no idea where he found the dirt nor do I want to find out.

Out Sick

It's official. Emmett has experienced his first illness. He started to vomit Wednesday morning (it's now Sunday) and proceeded to have the WORST diarrhea EVER. He gave it to me and Ben so our whole house was puking and visiting the toilet a lot. Actually, I fared pretty well since I was only sick for a night. Both Ben and Emmett have been sick for 5 days now. Ugh. And if you are wondering - the diapers are awful and a lot of laundry has been washed in this house.

On top of the sickness we lost our remote control to the TV. I am being tortured in my own home. Surrounded by sick boys with no TV to watch. Yes, I know I could just walk up to the TV and push the on button but really, it's just not the same.

Here is Emmett on Tuesday - the day before he was sick. We went to visit some friends who had a dollhouse. He decided to climb into it.

Emmett is trying to comb Ben's hair.

I don't think Ben finds it relaxing and enjoyable.

Here is the next morning. Pathetic, right?

So I started feeding him and he fell asleep in his high chair. I suppose if I had this thing called mother's intuition I would know he was sick. But I just thought he was tired.

He hasn't has any solids for 5 days now so he's really hungry. So he puts everything in his mouth. But I'm pretty sure he would be putting things in his mouth anyway regardless of his illness.

Plate

Comb

Q-tip he somehow got out of the box.

And here is trying to eat the camera.

I'm really hoping he starts to get better soon.

9 Months!

I've been neglecting the baby blog lately. Sorry. Wedding season has begun so I'm spending a lot of time working and also trying to keep up with my business blog. As much as I love to talk about Emmett - it doesn't make the family money.

So we went to Emmett's 9 month check up a couple of days ago. Overall, he's doing well but let's just say Emmett is one tall, skinny baby with a big ol' head.

Height: 29" (75th percentile)
Weight: 19 lbs. 14 oz. (30th percentile)
Head Circumference: 46.5 cm or something like that. I can't remember. But I do remember the nurse telling me that his head is in the 80th percentile. Wow - Emmett has got quite the noggin.

Emmett's Milestones:
- He has a little tooth coming in.
- He's a scooting maniac and doing what is called the "army" crawl. He's starting to rock back and forth on his hands and knees but hasn't figured out how to move.
- The other day he pulled himself up to standing position all by himself. He was very proud of this achievement. How do I know this? Cause he gave out a squeal and flashed a semi-toothy grin at us.
-He's now eating Cheerios but doesn't know how to feed himself yet. He just opens his mouth and expects me to pop one in there for him. Of course I do cause I'm clearly starving him (being in the 20th percentile for weight.)
- He now eats oatmeal, avocados, bananas, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, yogurt, apples, pears, peaches, peas and rice.

First time eating a cheerio.

What do you want me to do again? Feed myself? Yeah right.

If you give me a spoon I can make a mess.

This is where I put him when I have to pee. He loves his jumpy.

This is where we must contain Emmett. Also known as baby jail.

Poor Emmett. He's stuck in baby jail.

Like a true inmate he broke free...
He's blurry cause he was moving really fast.
