Pumpkins and Tigers

Oops. Just found these photos on my computer. Forgot to post them. I guess I'm a little behind. This means you'll see Thanksgiving pictures in January 2010 and Christmas pictures in March 2010.

We felt like we should take Emmett to a pumpkin patch. It was his first. What I have learned that most of Emmett's "first" visits to anywhere is met with a blank stare. He has no idea where he is or what's going on.

Where am I?

What is going on?

Huh?

The Powder Puff Burlings

Let's get out of here.

Here is Emmett in his Halloween costume. He looks pretty happy.....

But then he decided that he didn't like that thing on his head.

And the baby tiger starts to meltdown.

Pucker Up!

Emmett has added a new talent to his bag of tricks - he can now kiss! It sometimes is slobbery but I'll take it. I love Emmett kisses. The best part? The way he looks when he puckers up.

Isn't that face just so kissable?!

Emmett Likes to Read

I mentioned before how he loves books. He even has a fictional character as a girlfriend. He's moved on now from picture books...he's a big boy that can read chapter books. He sure knows how to make us proud.

Hmmm....this looks like a pretty good read.

Bella is a nice name. That Edward sure sounds like a hunk. It's a shame he's a vampire.

Oh darn! I lost my page.

Wow. This is getting really good.

I wonder how it ends?

So do you think I should be worried about the books he's starting to get into?

Laundry Basket Uses

Emmett's favorite toy right now is the laundry basket. He has discovered all of the wonderful things you can do with it other than holding dirty clothes. Who needs toys?

You can sit in it.

Emmett likes to test gravity with it.

He learns that he cannot defy gravity.

He's like a cat. Always lands on his feet.

Turn the basket upside down and you have something to lounge on.

I'm getting tired so I'm going to get down....

and lay on the floor.

But wait! Why lie on the floor when you can rest on top of the laundry basket?!

First Word, First Crush, First Pot

Emmett now has words. Well, one word to be exact. He can wave and say, "Hi." He's been doing this for a week now. We weren't sure if it was a fluke or if he was talking but he's been doing this pretty consistently. His timeliness on this is still a little sketchy...he'll be playing and then bust out with the waving and "hi" out of no where but he also does it when he sees me or Ben walk into the room. So he gets points for practicing.

Emmett also has a new girlfriend. It's a girl in a book. She's waving hi. He will find this book and hand it to me or Ben and wants us to read it to him. When we turn to this page he starts waving hi to her and then kisses the page. Should I tell him that he doesn't stand a chance with her? No need to burst his bubble yet, I guess. For now, I will encourage this love affair since it encourages him to read (or look at books).

We also extended his play area. This area now includes the kitchen and all of the toys that come with it. He likes to play with pots, pans, colanders and strainers. He was quite proud to discover he could sit in the frying pan the other day.

Emmett in Action

Emmett visits Auntie Gee every Wednesday and he definitely has a lot of fun. Who wouldn't with all of those toys to play with?! It's good to see him have so much fun while I'm trying to get some work done!
Piano Man

I wish this was real.

Why won't this thing bend?

One Year Check Up

Emmett had his one year check up with the Doctor earlier this week. He did great!

Head: I don't know the exact measurements but he has a big head. 95th percentile.
Height: 31" 75th percentile
Weight: 21 lbs. 12oz. 40th percentile.

Emmett is a lollipop. Big head with skinny chopstick legs. He had 3 shots and didn't cry. What a good baby!

And a blog entry is no good unless you post some pictures - so here are some photos of Emmett showing his Spoon Tricks. Thanks Grandpa Ed for sharing the pictures!

Emmett Birthday

I had to work on Emmett's real birthday - bad mommy. But Emmett had a great day with Grandma and Grandpa! Grandpa (Ben's Dad) did a great job of putting a blog post together. I'm reposting it for you all to enjoy.

Today, was my Birthday!

This is the table and chairs that my grandpa just finished.
My dad and uncle played with them when they were kids.

Grandma & Grandpa took me to the library...

...and I got to check out some really neat books.

Then, we went over to the pre-school playground at church...

...and got our picture taken!

After my nap, they sang "Happy Birthday" to me and I got a cake!

I really like chocolate cake!

12 Months!

So many parents have told me that it goes by fast - and it's true. I can't believe that Emmett is now 1 year old. They change so fast in the first year and learn so many new things - its amazing. Their neurons and synapses must just go crazy and no wonder they sleep 13-14 hours a day. I'm proud (and a little sad **tear) to say that Emmett is no longer a baby. He's getting close to be a toddler. He's not walking quite yet but he's an expert cruiser (walks along furniture) and I'm pretty sure he will start walking in the next 3-4 months - if not sooner (yikes).

So let's look how Mr. Emmett has changed this year...

Just a few minutes old....

5 Days old - after his first bath. Aunt Sherry brushed his hair.

1 month old - November 2008

2 months old - December 2008
This is when he got his "chubby chops" as grandma would like to say.

3 months Old - January 2009

4 months old - February
5 months old - March
He thinned out a bit cause he was starting to be more mobile.

6 months old - April

7 months old - May

8 months - June

9 months - July

10 months - August

11 months - September

12 months - October 2009

Happy birthday Emmett!!
